Churchill Retirement Living, Quinton

CLIENT: Churchill Retirement LivingQuinton

CONTRACT DURATION: 6 months

Churchill Retirement Living contracted Union Contractors to carry out the works to prepare the site for the development of an apartment complex at Wolverhampton Road, Quinton, which was the site of a former Public House.  The development was for a four storey, retirement complex that consisted of 4 1 and 2 bedroom apartments with a lift facility.  Works on site included Section 106 and Section 50 works.

Building Foundation Works

The former public house included a cellar, which, has been removed leaving an extensive low-level area extending approximately 3.5 m below the general site level, leaving a low level area in the centre of the site.  The site development area was subject to varying levels, with some areas subject to deep excavation and other higher levels of the site requiring retention works.

Due to ground conditions the site required deep footings / trench fill foundations to accommodate the variations in the strata.

Drainage Works

All associated drainage requirements were installed to the site for the development, including, sewers and a 61 square metre storm water attenuation system (Wavin Aquacell Prime Units, with Geotextile Surround and a Polypropylene Geomembrane) to manage surface run off from the development.

Retaining Wall and Gabion Wall

Due to the varying levels of the site, a retaining wall was installed as well as a gabion wall adjacent to the existing residential properties.

Hard Landscaping and Car Park Works

An entry road was created for the site and a car park area for the development was constructed and laid with Tarmac.  Various areas around the site, including the garden areas were constructed with block paving and other decorative slab stones and soft landscaping areas created.
